A mutual friend of ours was having a gathering at a bar of her close friends. I was new to the group, but was welcomed by everybody. James & I were pretty much acquaintances, but got to know each other gradually through different social gatherings and wild parties over the course of about 3 years. We bonded over nostalgia, unique interests & karaoke which led us to a relationship. :)
Always loving a fun time, we would try all sorts of events & places to check them out. One year for my birthday, I wanted to attempt an escape room. We went and enjoyed it, and at a later point went to one with the rest of the Sugrue family. One Saturday, James was telling me we had to go to see his parents because they were giving us free tickets to an escape room. I was confused as to why we were the ones who they were giving the tickets to when the whole family had previously enjoyed it. I also hate getting up early in the mornings for bus trips. lol. We then meet up with James' dad who loans us the car and we head off to the escape room. When we get there and are brought into the room, we are told that the story premise is that we need to find the secret trick poker deck of a gambler. With various hiccups in the features of the room (well, "rooms" since there was a secret one from the original we entered), we got to one "clue" where there is a note James quickly pulled out of a box and started reading "My dearest Melissa," it began. I was still thinking we were trying to escape and now finding out the gambler had written a love letter to a girl with my name was a weird coincidence. The speech goes on and James drops down on his knee and pulls the ring box out of his pocket..... (I finally realize we had finished the game and this was actually happening) he takes out the ring, starts to pop the question and drops the ring. lol. He picks it up, pops the full question. Gee, I wonder what my answer was.... Haha.
