Things To Do

Greenfield Village

20900 Oakwood Boulevard, Dearborn, MI 48124

Although our wedding reception will be at The Henry Ford Museum and during the evening you will be able to browse the museum building to your heart's desire (Please don't cross any ropes/touch anything you wouldn't be able to with a tour guide present) that is really only half of the complex. Outside the main museum hall, Greenfield Village is a walk back in time full of workshops, farms, and spooky Halloween decorations in October. For special discounts use promo code WEDDING50; for 10% off any attraction OR 50% off your second attraction when you purchase a combo ticket

Belle Isle

4 Inselruhe Ave, Detroit, MI 48207

Belle Isle is not just a clever name, the beautiful island park is the gem of Detroit. Check out the fountain, the aquarium, the conservatory, the fall colors driving around the island, and wave to Canada.

See Canada!

1340 Atwater St, Detroit, MI 48207

Unless you live in another border city, it's not every day you can see another country! Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, going to Canada for the day is not as easy as it used to be, and it is unclear whether border restrictions will tighten or loosen between now and the wedding. But you can at the very least look at Canada! If you're going from the church to the museum and you take Biddle/Jefferson Ave to Southfield road, you will get glimpses of Canada on the other side of the Detroit River. Better views of Canada can be seen at the Detroit Riverwalk downtown (The linked address), or on Belle Isle (As previously mentioned).

Buddy's Pizza

22148 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI 48124
, (313) 562-5900

Kathleen's favorite restaurant. If you've never had Detroit style pizza, you're missing out. If you think your pizza is superior because you're from New York or Chicago, at least give it a try. This stretch of Michigan Avenue also has many other restaurants and bars for every palate. For drinks, try the Jolly Pumpkin if you like sours, or the Biergarten if it is warm enough. For deserts, try Milkster Nitrogen Creamery (Warning: It is pay by weigh and the ice cream physically expands as the process continues) or pick up something from Gateaux Patisserie.

Slows Bar BQ

2138 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48216
, (313) 962-9828

The best barbecue in the city is at Slows. If Barbeque isn't your thing, just cross the street to Mercury Bar for burgers and shakes. Along this stretch of Michigan Avenue you'll see the historic Michigan Central Station, which Ford Motor Company is working on restoring, and the site of the old Tiger Stadium which has been recently redeveloped into another (much smaller) baseball stadium after the demolition of the original. For after dinner drinks go to Sugar House for the fanciest cocktails in town or the Gaelic League for an Irish dive bar.

Green Dot Stables

2200 West Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48216
, (313) 962-5588

You never know what will be on the menu at Green Dot, in a good way! The ever expanding menu of sliders and bottled beers offers a global variety of flavors, including Mystery Meat. "Mystery meat" brings up memories of elementary school cafeteria trays, but here it means "Surprise! We got a great deal on some rare fish that you probably won't be able to get anywhere else in the city."

Detroit Institute of Arts

5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202
, (313) 833-7900

One of the largest art collections in the country. If you live in Oakland, Macomb, or Wayne county, it's free! And if you don't, the Diego Rivera murals alone are worth the price of admission. You cannot capture the vastness and detail of them in a photograph. Stick around for suits of armor, classical and contemporary paintings, and more!

Detroit Historical Museum

5401 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202
, (313) 833-1805

Located across the street from the Detroit Institute of Arts is Kathleen's favorite museum in Detroit which commemorates the history and the people of our city. Walk down the streets of old Detroit, watch a car chassis move through an assembly line, and immerse yourself in the music of the 20th century. Currently featured changing exhibitions include "Detroit 67: Perspectives" discussing the riots of the summer of 1967, and "Detroit’s Brewing Heritage" showcasing one of Scott's favorite subjects: Michigan Beer.

Tim Horton's

2704 Biddle Avenue, Wyandotte, MI 48192

Scott doesn't actually like their coffee and Kathleen doesn't drink coffee, but to some Michiganders and Canadians it has a cult following similar to Dunkin Donuts on the East Coast. The Timbits donut holes are pretty delicious so those are definitely recommended. There are many locations throughout the region. We originally weren't going to put this on the list, but there is one location literally on the other side of the parking lot from the church, so we felt like we had to make the recommendation based on convenience alone.
