FAQs

Question

Should I book my hotel now?

Answer

Yes, go ahead and book! Your hotel information is included at the end of your RSVP details, along with hotel contact information and wedding block details. You can access this anytime by going back to your RSVP details.

Question

How do I get to Oaxaca?

Answer

Getting to Oaxaca is easier than you might think. Direct flights are available from Dallas, Houston, Cancún, and Mexico City, meaning most guests will only need one quick connection from their home city. Once you've touched down, the city center is just a 30 minute drive from the airport. For those who'd like to arrange transportation in advance, please reach out to oaxacadestinationweddings@gmail.com for assistance booking a car to take you to your hotel. All of our recommended hotels are located within easy walking distance of one another and the weekend's events, so once you're settled in, you won't need to think about getting around much at all. No need to rent a car.

Question

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

Answer

There are two options. The easiest is the official taxi counter inside the airport — simply tell them your hotel name, pay a fixed rate, and you'll be assigned a driver. Note that these taxis are shared, so journey time may vary slightly. For private transportation arranged in advance, we recommend contacting our wedding planner directly: Oaxaca Destination Weddings oaxacadestinationweddings@gmail.com For private car hire, you can also contact: Transportación en Oaxaca Ejecutiva Tel: 951 517 2039 | conoce_oaxaca@hotmail.com One important note — there is no Uber in Oaxaca.

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

No — we'd actually recommend skipping the rental car entirely. All of our recommended hotels are within easy walking distance of one another and the weekend's events. Oaxaca's city center is safe, pleasant, and made for walking both day and night. For anything further, yellow taxis are affordable, easy to find, and cash only.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

A few things worth remembering: Bring Mexican pesos or plan to withdraw at ATMs in Centro Screenshot your hotel address before you land — cell signal at the airport can be unreliable Drink bottled water only, including for brushing your teeth Pack layers — days are warm and sunny, but evenings get cool Wear comfortable shoes — Oaxaca's cobblestone streets are beautiful but uneven Bring sunscreen and sunglasses Mexico uses 110–120V with Type A or B plugs, the same as the US If your stomach tends to be sensitive when traveling, probiotics and activated charcoal are worth packing just in case

Question

Is Oaxaca safe?

Answer

Yes — Oaxaca is considered one of the safest and most welcoming cities in Mexico, and a beloved destination for international travelers. Most travelers find Oaxaca peaceful, charming, and full of warmth.

Question

What should I eat?

Answer

Oaxaca is considered one of the culinary capitals of Mexico — do not leave without trying mole, tlayudas, Oaxacan tamales, quesillo, and chapulines. Tipping is customary — 10–15% at restaurants, and rounding up for taxis is appreciated.
