Our Story

Shana and Hunter first met on Hinge in May of 2023 in Pensacola, Florida. Hunter had just moved south for Naval Introductory Flight Training (NIFE). Shana had moved down from Waynesburg, Pennsylvania with her golden retriever, Tony, the previous summer to enjoy the sunshine and the beach while she “worked” remotely. Their first date was a slice and a beer at Papa’s Pizza, and their second was church together on Easter Sunday the very next day. This kicked off an incredible summer full of beach volleyball at the Oar House and Bushwhackers at the Florabama. It was exactly like Top Gun. After the completion of NIFE in early 2024, Shana and Hunter moved to Corpus Christi, Texas for his Primary Flight Training. While it won’t be high on their list of places to retire, Corpus Christi will always hold a special place in their hearts as the first home they shared together. And luckily, their time in Texas was short because by the end of the year they were headed back to Pensacola after Hunter selected Helicopters at the end of Primary. Shana, Hunter, and Tony found a cute blue house with a yellow door in the historic neighborhood of East Hill for their second stint in Pensacola in December of 2024. Their second year in Florida was a little less Top Gun, but in many ways it was even better than the first as all three of them started to settle into their new life together. Unfortunately, the Navy doesn’t ever want to see you get too comfortable somewhere, and before the Holidays in 2025 they found out they were heading west to San Diego. Shana and Hunter, with Tony in the back seat, drove for six days in January from Florida to California. They stopped in Oklahoma to visit friends, and then Santa Fe, the Grand Canyon, and Sedona to do some sight seeing. After they finally arrived in San Diego, they immediately decided it was a place they could stay forever. The first hike they went on in Julian, California is where Hunter ultimately proposed two months later on a sunny day in March. The center stone of Shana’s ring has been in Hunter’s family for over a hundred years and was used in honor of his grandfather who sadly passed away in February, but will be with all of us in spirit in October.
