Travel Note
The best way to get around quickly and safely is definitely Uber. The drivers are all professional and know the city very well.
Travel Note
Starting in April, 2025, you will need a visa to enter Brazil. You can find more information about the visa and how to apply at the website linked below. There are currently no requirements to show proof of vaccination when traveling to Brazil or when traveling back home to the U.S. ** We’ve put together a detailed travel guide to help you plan and enjoy your trip to São Paulo to the fullest. I’d be happy to share it with you as soon as we receive your RSVP! **
Rental Car
Our suggestion for most guests is to forego renting a car if you only plan to travel around Sao Paulo itself. The Ubers in Sao Paulo are definitely the safest and most cost effective way to get around. However, if you would feel more comfortable having your own vehicle for the trip, we typically use Localiza to find the best deals. If you have your own preference for car rentals, most of the commonly known rental companies are there as well. A few tips for driving around the city: 1. People drive on the right side of the road just like in the U.S. so no need to worry about being in the wrong lane. 2. Traffic can be extremely bad if you are traveling across the city (2+ hours during rush hour) so plan accordingly. 3. There are motorcycles EVERYWHERE. The moto-boys will drive between the cars so be extra careful when changing lanes. Also, they don't like it when you stick your arm out the window (and might hit you if you do) so its best to keep all limbs inside the vehicle at all times. 4. In an attempt to limit traffic, the city has implemented tolls for various highways throughout the city. The car rental company will usually explain this to you and you will likely have an option to buy a pass that allows you to have the toll charged automatically to the car rental company via the car's license plate. 5. Keep an eye out for capybaras! If your lucky you will see one along the side of the road. They are good luck.
