We met on an intramural soccer field. We were playing on opposite teams while Hunter was the goalie, and Alex played forward. Alex ran into Hunter (literally) and he kept her from falling. After the game, Hunter messaged Alex because he likes a feisty lady. Later that year, Hunter moved to New York for graduate school, and we stayed in touch.
Years later, Hunter messaged Alex on Instagram saying how cute Rey was (he really meant Alex). He was in town visiting friends and asked to get brunch. Hunter lived in Manhattan and traveled for work every week, so it was easy to fly into Houston instead of NYC. We wanted to make it work, so we dated long distance until moving in together June of 2020.
The day before Thanksgiving, Hunter called Alex and asked if she wanted to go to the park for a walk before dinner. Alex was immediately suspicious but let it slide. By the time we got to the park, the sun was down. Hunter reassured her that there were lights on the path. As we began walking, we realized that there were in fact, no lights. Hunter had already planned a surprise at a specific location, so he persisted onto the trail. At our spot, Hunter proposed in the dark with our phone lights shining. Of course, Alex said, "Yes!"
