How We Met

2008

Cody and I met in high school and made an immediate connection. Despite flirting our way through our years at Male, we never dated and went our separate ways after graduation. Don't worry, there's a happy ending 😜

Years Later...

2020

As fate would have it, Cody and I managed to reconnect in January 2020. He had been overseas in the Navy for several years, but he was finally getting stationed back stateside. He was home on leave and enjoying a meal with his family at Frisch's when my mom and I walked in. I had just left my LASIK consultation, so my eyes were still dilated, and seeing anything beyond a foot in front of me was a challenge. My sweet mother, being the social butterfly that she is, spotted Cody and shouted his name with pure excitement. We chatted for a bit then said goodbye yet again, never thinking it would become what it did. Cody messaged me hours later to set up a date before he moved to Virginia, so we went to Drake’s the very next night to watch the UK game and catch up over some drinks and fried pickles. He moved to Virginia a few weeks later. Fast forward to August --- Cody was back home on leave and invited me over to hang out a bit before he had to head back to Virginia. We spent HOURS giggling outside on the back patio in front of the fire, which wasn't anything out of the ordinary with us, but now there was new, undeniable chemistry that neither of us could ignore. When it came time for me to leave, we shared our first kiss and realized we had left the friend zone for good. We talked constantly from then on, and I knew I couldn't let this guy slip out of my hands. I booked a flight and flew to Virginia for his birthday in October then again for Thanksgiving. We were both SO smitten and counting down the days until his next trip home in December. This is where our next chapter begins!

The Proposal

January 8, 2021

Just a few days after Christmas, Cody came home again for sixteen wonderful days. We had a belated Christmas celebration with his family and did tons of Louisville things. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work during Cody's time back home. Little did I know, that gave him time to plan the proposal. Cody was adamant about celebrating the end of my first week back at work at Drake's. I didn't think anything of it, because we both love Drake's and have a special attachment to it. On the drive home, Cody asked me to play some music. I put on a playlist that I made of songs that Cody had sent me over the last several months. I put it on shuffle, and "Diamond In My Pocket" by Cody Johnson came on. We drove up to the house where his family had lined the front steps with candles. On the top step were gorgeous flowers and the ring. If I'm being perfectly honest, I blacked out from excitement, but I'm about 99% certain he asked me to marry him... EASIEST. YES. EVER.

For all the days along the way
