Things To Do

Mākālei Beach Park

Mākālei Beach Park

3111 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, HI 96815

A hidden gem near Diamond Head. Mākālei Beach Park is one of the few beaches in town that is not crowded. It's a small beach with lots of reef near the shoreline so be careful when entering the water. Perfect for a quick dip or snorkeling!

Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail

Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail

Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail, Waimanalo, HI

An easy hike with gorgeous views. Go early to avoid the afternoon heat and crowd as parking tends to fill up quickly. If the tide is low you might be able to climb down to the tidepools from the top. The trek to the tidepools is a little more challenging since it is much steeper and the rocks are sharp. However, if you can it is highly recommended! One of Cassie's favorite hikes.

Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail

Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail

Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail, Honolulu, HI 96821

Another great trail. More challenging than Makapu'u Lighthouse but the views are stunning at the top. A great place to see the different microclimates of the island as it changes the higher you climb. Parking is in a residential neighborhood.

Waimea Valley

Waimea Valley

59-864 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa, HI 96712
, (808) 638-7766

If you're heading to the North Shore, the Waimea Valley Botanical Garden is worth checking out. You can also see various cultural sites like a heiau (religious place of worship) and the kauhale (traditional Hawaiian living site).

Keawa'ula Beach

Keawa'ula Beach

Farrington Highway, Waialua, HI 96791
, (808) 587-0300

Also known as Yokohama Bay, Keawa'ula is one of the most gorgeous beaches on the island. Bit of a drive from town but is well worth it. There's no shade so bring a hat and pack your sunscreen!

Yanagi Sushi

Yanagi Sushi

762 Kapiolani Boulevard, Honolulu, HI 96813
, (808) 597-1525

A local favorite! Great spot for sushi, teishoku dinner set, and late night happy hour. Call ahead to make reservations.

Ono Seafood Products

Ono Seafood Products

747 Kapahulu Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96816
, (808) 732-4806

Want to try the best poke on O'ahu? Go here!

Bar Leather Apron

Bar Leather Apron

, (808) 524-0808

Get a craft cocktail made by Cassie's cousin, Justin (pictured). Reservations recommended as seats are limited.

Honolulu Beerworks

Honolulu Beerworks

328 Cooke Street, Honolulu, HI 96813
, (808) 589-2337

Honolulu has many microbreweries. But only one has the Pia Mahi'ai, Honey Citrus Saison.

Waiahole Poi Factory

Waiahole Poi Factory

48-140 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe, HI 96744
, (808) 239-2222

In Hawai'i, there's a saying for food that tastes so good that it "broke da mouth". Waiahole Poi Factory is just that. This is real Hawaiian food. Don't forget to order their infamous dessert called, "Sweet Lady of Waiahole". Warm kulolo (steamed taro with coconut) topped with haupia (coconut) ice cream.
