In 2019, Anna told her family to stop asking her about being single and start setting her up! One cousin took the challenge seriously and late that year gave Hugo Anna’s number. In true whirlwind romance fashion, Hugo waited about a year and half to reach out. In his defense, 2020 had descended and the Lord had work to do in both our hearts. In spring of 2021, Hugo messaged Anna out of the blue to get coffee. The two met at Selma’s one and only Coffee Shoppe. Hugo’s cheery “Hello!”, his Afrikaans accent, and his almond cow pick up lines caught Anna’s attention (who honestly was expecting to walk into another run-of-the-mill-blind-date). But the mutual understanding around spirituality and following Jesus suprised us both! Four hours later, we both left knowing something was very different about this date. By the next time we met, we both knew we wanted to seriously pursue a relationship together. Now as we prepare to celebrate our marriage, we are both in awe at God’s grace to us in the gift of each other. His timing and His plans truly exceed anything we could have asked or imagine!
