This story vastly differs depending on who you ask but here is the general consensus. Maria moved to Logan, Utah in Fall of 2015 to attend Utah State University. After joining Kappa Delta sorority, Alex's fraternity invited over all the Kappa Delta's for a barbeque to meet the newest members. While one of Alex's fraternity brothers was chatting Maria's ear off trying to make an impression, Maria spotted a handsome Pi Kappa Alpha member who was ignoring all the girls and playing with a dog in the yard instead. A few weeks later, Maria's Kappa Delta Big sister (now Maid of Honor) asked all the new members who they wanted to take to the Fall Formal. One girl in the back seat piped up "I think that Souvall guy is cute!" to which, Maria agreed. Our Maid of Honor, Becca, completely ignored the girl in the backseat and asked Maria if she wanted to take Alex to formal because she could make it happen. Maria agreed and thought nothing else of it. Weeks passed and the time to decide on a date to the Fall Formal was quickly approaching. Maria had yet to speak more than a couple words to Alex in passing so she decided it may make more sense to invite a friend from SLC to be her date to formal. Little did Maria know, all of her sorority sisters had been telling Alex that she was TOTALLY into him and he was going to get invited to Formal without a doubt. A week before formal, Maria and a few of her sorority sisters attended a dance at the Pi Kappa Alpha house and Alex was actually there! Being the president and having two majors, he hardly ever was in attendance at social gatherings. The couple talked, flirted, danced, and made chocolate chip pancakes at the end of the night before Alex offered to drive Maria home for the night. At this point, Maria really wanted to invite Alex to formal but felt that bailing on her friend who had already been invited would be rude. So the two proceeded to chat casually via text. The day of Formal arrived and Maria received a call from her date two hours before the dance. Their car was not starting and they had no way to get to Logan. Maria was getting ready for the dance with her KD sister, Emily, and Emily offered to get Maria a new date before the dance. Maria said "I actually think I'm gonna text Alex and invite him." To which Emily replied, "Okay! But don't text him. CALL HIM." Alex saw Maria's call come in as he was pulling out of the Pike driveway to head to SLC for the weekend. He knew formal was that day and he knew what this was about. After wrestling with the idea of being second choice for a date, he picked up. Maria let him know the situation and asked him if he might be willing to go to Formal with her even though it was so last minute. Alex did want to go but felt uneasy about how it had all played out. He finally agreed to attend and they decided to meet at the Kappa Delta house to drive to the venue together. The couple danced and laughed and had a wonderful first date. Ever since then, they have been inseparable.
