We met on a beach in San Diego. I lived in Utah, he lived there in California. We didn't think much would come out of us meeting since I would be going home in a few days, but there was a spark and we just never stopped talking, even 800 miles apart. Neither of us thought we would meet the person we were going to marry that day, but the universe had other plans.
On New Years Eve, we were in San Diego together. We planned a date night and got dressed up for a nice dinner. Unbeknownst to me, Matt had more plans than just dinner. Before our reservation he took me to the same beach where we had met. It was a cloudy day, but we watched the sunset peak through the clouds and the waves wash up on shore. After reminiscing about the day we met so many years ago, and how it was crazy that two kids from two different states fell in love, Matt got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
After over five years of long distance, we were ready to be together. When one of you is in the military, it adds some complications to planning out your life, so we decided to get legally married. On 9.19.19 in the courthouse in Salt Lake City we said our vows in front of immediate family. However, we still wanted to have a party to celebrate with all our loved ones who were not there for our legal wedding. So on the year anniversary we are coming together to eat, drink, and dance the night away in celebration of our union.
