Once upon a time, a Rhade girl from the Central Highlands of Vietnam boarded a plane with big dreams, a student visa, and about 10 pounds of ramen noodles in her luggage. Of course, Sandra would never know she was about to get ambushed by fate in the form of a tall, goofy, cat-loving white guy named Zach. We met totally by chance, but something clicked. Was it the jokes? The way he said “Phở” like “fuh” or "foe"? His questionable chopstick technique? The fact that he offered smoothies within five minutes of meeting me? We may never know. But from that moment, it was ice scream dates, surprise weekend visits, late-night convos, sending each other unhinged reels at 2AM, falling asleep on FaceTime, and laughing at the same memes from two different places. A modern love story, really. Our relationship wasn’t easy. We spent most of it long-distance — across time zones, cultures, languages, expectations, schedules, and stress. There were misunderstandings, miscommunications, and moments where we had to choose patience, kindness, and each other — over and over again. Between FaceTime calls, visa applications, up and down times, and way too many teary airport goodbyes, we somehow always found our way back to each other. We learned each other’s worlds, step by step. Three years in, he proposed — at home, quietly, with our cats judging from the couch. No grand gestures, no big crowd, just a nervous boy with a ring and a girl who said yes before he could finish the question. It was awkward, simple, and 100% us. Now we’re getting married in Alaska — surrounded by mountains, wildflowers, and the people who mean everything to us. Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’ve been here since day one or you’re just joining the chaos, we’re so happy to have you in our story.
