We first met in the summer of 2012. Yewon was thirteen, Hoyoung was fourteen — at a Sooyoungro Church missionary retreat in Korea. Though we were both born in Busan, our families were living abroad at the time, connected through the same sending church. For two weeks, the missionary kids traveled around Korea together — amusement parks, traditional folk villages, and plenty of street tteokbokki. And yet, we never spoke. We simply knew the other existed. Years later, Hoyoung would admit he thought Yewon was cute back then. He still remembers one specific moment — the two of us riding an elevator alone together. Yewon does not =D Thirteen years later, our moms — still close friends — reconnected us in New York. What started as a practical introduction quickly turned into hours of easy conversation. Before any official plans happened, Hoyoung came up to Columbia, Yewon showed him around campus, and dinner turned into a night neither of us wanted to end. Not long after, we began dating. None of it was planned. And yet, looking back, it feels like something quietly unfolding across years, cities, and continents. From Busan to New York. And now, in the heart of Central Park, we begin the next chapter — together 🌿💍 ────────── ♡ ────────── 우리는 2012년 여름에 처음 만났습니다. 예원이는 열세 살, 호영이는 열네 살이었고, 수영로교회 선교사 자녀 수련회에서 얼굴을 처음 마주했답니다. 우리는 둘다 부산에서 태어났지만, 당시에는 각자 가족들이이 해외에서 살고 있었죠. 같은 파송 교회를 통해 이어진 인연이었지만, 그때는 서로의 삶이 이렇게 연결될 줄은 꿈에도 몰랐습니다. 2주 동안 선교사 자녀들은 함께 한국을 여행했습니다. 놀이공원에도 가고, 전통 민속촌도 방문하고, 길거리 떡볶이도 실컷 먹었습니다. 하지만 우리는 단 한마디도 나누지 않았고 그저 서로의 존재만 알고 있었었죠. 세월이 흐른 뒤, 호영이는 그때 예원이가 귀여웠다고 고백했습니다. 그는 아직도 둘만 엘리베이터를 탔던 순간을 또렷이 기억하고 있습니다. 예원이는… 기억하지 못하지만요 =D 그리고 13년이 지난 후, 뉴욕에서 우리의 인연은 다시 이어졌습니다. 오랫동안 친하게 지내온 두 어머니의 연결로 다시 연락이 닿았습니다. 가벼운 인사로 시작된 대화는 어느새 시간 가는 줄 모를 만큼 편안한 이야기로 이어졌고요. 원래는 호영이가 예원이 가족들에게 회사 투어를 해주기로 하면서 연락이 닿았지만, 그 전에 둘은 먼저 만나기로 해서 호영이는 콜럼비아 대학교로 예원이를 보러 왔고, 예원이는 캠퍼스를 안내해 주었습니다. 저녁 식사는 밤이 깊도록 이어졌고, 우리는 그 시간이 아쉽기만 했습니다. 그러고 얼마 지나지 않아 우리는 연인이 되었습니다. 처음부터 계획된 일은 아니었지만 돌아보면, 이 이야기는 오랜 시간, 여러 도시와 여러 대륙을 지나 조용히 이어져 온 것처럼 느껴집니다. 부산에서 뉴욕까지. 기억조차 흐릿한 엘리베이터에서 시작해, 아직도 써 내려가고 있는 우리의 이야기까지. 그리고 이제, 센트럴파크 한가운데에서 우리는 함께 새로운 시작을 합니다 🌿💍
