Written by Mike: Trisha and I met at Coconut Joes, while she was out celebrating her birthday with her friends. We hit it off right away when I asked when kind of crazy drink she was drinking (it was blue with a giant Redbull sticking out of its top!!!). Richie was with me and we were drinking bourbon and gingers...I think... Sarah instantly recognized Richie from childhood and that helped our conversation - it was the perfect situation. After we closed the bar, I invited everyone to my apartment for after drinks. I asked Trisha to join my kickball team, leading her on that I needed more girl players, but I didn't - I needed her number.
I had been offered a big position in Ashburn, VA - I knew Trisha would be iffy leaving her family and friends in Riva, without being my wife...on one of our many weekend visits to my (possible) future property, I proposed to Trisha at Lightfoot Restaurant in downtown historic Leesburg. We had never been there before, but my boss at the time had lunch there and was so impressed, she thought it would be the perfect place. She went out of her way to make the entire night perfect, and reserved us a spot next to a fireplace (though - in expected Trisha fashion, left us running late, so we missed that spot ) , but hired the bartender to record the entire proposal! We had the best lobster bisque soup of our lives followed by “steak and cakes” which were lump crabcakes (my fav) and Filet Mignon (Trishas fav). We were INCREDIBLY STUFFED after such a fabulous feast! Trisha (everyone take note) A L W A Y S orders dessert (mostly before dinner), but didn’t want any this particular night. I forced her to get some because I hadn’t proposed yet!!!!!!!! The rest is a little fuzzy because I blacked out for a minute. I remember saying "I’ve been doing a lot of thinking" ... and then got down on one knee. The bartender was wearing tie with a penguin on it (for us), because they mate for life. We then went to Kings Tavern just a skip away and celebrated our special night. The next day we celebrated with friends!
