Matt moved to Tennessee on June 3rd for a new job and his trainer for work, who was from Raleigh, told him he should travel to Knoxville that weekend to play Pathfinder, a tabletop roleplaying game at their annual Free RPG Day, a national event that game stores do to bring in new players to the hobby. His trainer told him that he had a lot of fun with the group up there and thought it may make Matt feel better. Matt signed up to play games two and a half hours away in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he was introduced to Amber, the coordinator for events at the game store he would be playing at. She ran his first game of Pathfinder on that day! He met lots of new friends and shared lots of laughs in a game filled day.
Amber had been looking at going to graduate school at Tennessee Tech (located in Cookeville) to become a Special Education Teacher so she decided to come visit Matt in Cookeville for Fourth of July... She may have lied to her job and told them she had food poisoning to get an extra day off. They watched fireworks from the Kroger parking lot! At the end of the night, Matt asked Amber to be his girlfriend!
Matt had begun planning his proposal and wanted it to be on the anniversary of the event they met at -- Free RPG Day. Matt and Amber stayed with friends in Maryville and gamed at the same gaming store they had met at two years ago, all day. Matt made sure to invite many of their shared gaming friends to come and see the proposal in person. Matt hid Amber's dice (which are needed to play or run games) from her while she had went to the bathroom and they were "missing" when she was getting ready to run a game for her friends (Matt included). Matt "found" her dice, which had a new set added, which had a note inside it. As Amber read the note in front of a room full of friends, Matt got down on one knee and proposed! Of course she said yes!
