Blind Date

A bad haircut, and a long cup of coffee.

In May of 2015, Nathan asked Megan for a casual coffee blind date after the suggestion from a mutual friend. Both were living in Champaign, Nathan working on his masters at U of I and Megan as a teacher at Monticello High School. Megan agreed to the date, but she realized she really needed a haircut. She booked a last minute appointment with a new stylist to proceed the time she was to meet Nathan. Leaving the salon, Megan knew right away the haircut was a disaster, particularly the back. She thought about cancelling the date but decided against it and just hoped Nathan wouldn't notice. Megan positioned herself at an outdoor table so she could face him directly and hide the chaos on the back of her head. Nathan arrived via his motorcycle and bought the drinks. Several times Nathan asked Megan to move around the table into the range of the overhead umbrella to get out of the sun, but she refused, self-conscious of her haircut. They talked for three hours, and at the conclusion, agreed to meet again two days later. On their second date, Nathan couldn't help but notice the incredible sunburn Megan had sustained at the outdoor date two days earlier. He inquired about it, and Megan told on herself and detailed the hair situation that had since been fixed. Megan didn't know it at the time, but she would grow to learn Nathan is the last person who would ever notice a bad haircut and she should have just moved into the shade! In the six years since then, the motorcycle has been sold, there have been many haircuts, and hundred of "dates", but they often find themselves surprised at how quickly the time seems to pass when they are together.
