The proposal itself took place in Central Park in front of a crowd of New Yorkers that wooed and cheered for Ryan and Devon. Ryan had planned out the exact path they would walk down to “get coffee” in Central Park (this included walking right past a few cafes that sold “perfectly good coffee” as Devon noted). Ryan was so nervous during the entire 4.5 min walk (he timed it) that he memorized a number of Central Park facts to keep the conversation going. Although Ryan had a nice little speech he was going to say as he proposed to Devon, it did not matter, as she got on both of her knees and hugged him as soon as he pulled out the ring - It’s assumed she said yes.

Although Devon and Ryan both attended the Ohio State University with each other, had the same friends, and Ryan was known to sport the occasional hotdog costume - their paths really hadn't crossed much. It wasn't until Devon was back home in Cleveland the summer of 2015, that she remembered her basketball-loving friend "Howie" was living downtown. The two met up to watch the Cavs play in the finals and eat some wings. On memorial day weekend, Devon and Howie could be found closing down the local sports bar playing "Pour Some Sugar On Me" on the jukebox. This is not a joke, this really happened. Ryan finally had the courage to bust out his dance moves and win her over with his shoulder shimmy & leg kick combo. Just like the fairytales. They continued dating long-distance from Cleveland to Columbus for over a year before deciding to move to NYC together.
