How We Met

Meet-cute?

I'd not heard the phrase "meet-cute" until we started telling people how we met: randomly on the street in Fountain Square on Friday night of Memorial Day weekend in 2022. Neither of us was looking for what we found in one another, neither of us was expecting to find each other on this night. The funny part started with him seeing a random redhead walking awkwardly around a group of people on the sidewalk and decided to make fun of her. I caught his eye as he mocked my silly walk and we both burst out laughing. Then, in another awkward moment, we ended up walking in the same direction. "I swear I'm not actually following you now that you've made fun of me." I said. "Oh, I'm not following you either," he said. But there we were walking side by side, going the same way, to our cars both parked on the same street. So we started talking. And well, we had a lot in common: divorced, kids, kids in the same schools, knew the same groups of people (that got so uncanny), loved the same things like music, art, DnD, culture, politically aligned and, aside from Rob discovering I was a minister and briefly freaking out about that, we then learned we agree on so many things spiritually. We both agreed that seeing each other and bursting into a shared fit of laughter was a moment of spiritual kinship, a moment of "Oh hey, there you are. I found you." As if we have known each other for many lifetimes and we found each other again. Now is the time in our lives where our storylines get to come together and we get to share the rest of this life together, learning from our past, our pain and all that we have learned. We get to heal, learn, grown and be together. We are each other's comfort, support, anchor and guide. We love ourselves and who we are as individuals and who we get to be when we come together. And we have found deep satisfaction in bringing our families together. Life is beautiful with our powers combined, our family is gorgeous, our children bring us to our knees with joy and we adore living this life together- through all the good and the bad. As Rob said once said to me in describing how he feels about us, "I've have arrived at the place I know I want to spend the rest of my life. I have arrived at the place where I know I want to grow old and die." I couldn't agree more. To arrive at the place where you know you want to spend the rest of your life, to spend the rest of your days, well that's a beautiful and powerful thing. We are weird, loud, gregarious and full of love and joy for living this life, even the hard stuff. And we are so very grateful for each one of you who are part of living this life with us and sharing in the journey.
