How We Met

2016

Cass and I met at a training camp for a summer ministry called Christian Youth in Action. This was a 2 week training: first week we attended classes and studied our material, second week we put our study into practice with real kids to teach. My mom was a staff member at camp and Cass ended up in her group. I had been in this ministry for years, but this was his first time learning the material. I ended up helping him study due to my mom’s request, and we started studying together every day in the Chapel to prepare our Bible lessons. On the last day of camp, he gave me a note confessing his feelings for me. I was over the moon because the feeling was mutual. We started to call and text after camp was over and that’s where our story began.

The Proposal

2019

I was going to New York with my mom to go to a concert, and Cass tagged along. While we were there, we went to visit Central Park. This turned out to be a stressful endeavor as we attempted to drive there ourselves— a memory we will never forget. We walked for a while and eventually found a small, secluded area to have our little picnic. My mom told us to unpack while she went to find a restroom. Little to my knowledge, this meant she was going to sneak through the trees behind me to take pictures. As I was getting the dishes out, Cass told me he had something for me and handed me a note that he had written on the long car ride. The note seemed very familiar— being almost identical to the note he had given me back in 2016. That was when he pulled out a white ring box. Obviously, I said yes.
