The "I Do Crew"

Shawna Alderman

I Do Crew

When we first met she said she either had to be my friend or my enemy - she succeeded in becoming such a beloved friend. We have a shared love of Hobby Lobby and Dunkin Donuts. She keeps it real in every situation and she's a little bit fire and tornado wrapped in one. I love her energy and how she "keeps it real!" Oh - and she had my child!

Where do I even begin? Once upon a time we were young broke kids all working full-time jobs and barely making ends meet ... so we ended up being roomies. Then, God totally blessed me and we were given the opportunity to work side-by-side helping at-risk youth throughout our community. Our friendship has grown throughout all of these years and I've never had a better "partner in anti-crime" as this amazing woman right here! We were a little Lucy and Ethel, a little Bonnie and Clyde, a little Bat Woman and Superwoman, and most recently a little Winter and Hope. She tells me like it is with a straight Boston approach and leaves the M.I. on the side. We share a love for helping and loving children and of course ... coffee! I couldn't do this day without Winter by my side!

I still remember the day we met. She was carrying two car seats full of two little twin babies and was immediately welcoming me into her life. Within minutes she found out I was looking for a job and she was immediately giving me connections. This was just the first of hundreds of times she has been a friend and a support in my life and she has a heart that I am convinced is made of some type of element even more precious than gold. She gives and she gives and she loves and she loves - there is no one's path she crosses without leaving it better than she found it. She has passed this genuine quality on to her beautiful children. I am beyond blessed to call her friend and on our special day I am blessed she will be by my side just like she has been since the day we met.

Who knew a special event consisting of toilet paper and boiled eggs would be just the beginning of a truly amazing journey! The first time I heard him share a story of his interactions with at-risk youth I knew that he had a true heart for people. Since that moment I have seen nothing less than a man who puts the welfare of others at the core of his actions. I could share stories upon stories, but my favorite are centered around spooky home visits with invisible people, out-of-the-box thinking, leadership potlucks turned to one of the best events we host, hours of conversation about life, project planning, personal development, and many times - moments of just checking in and showing support. I couldn't image not having CC, the MI Guy, with fancy vests and eloquent speeches by my side.

I love this girl with all of my heart and I'm so happy she will be a part of the most important day of my life. We first met when she was attending my Sunday School class and after just a few classes she started asking to come home with me. Eventually she was my weekend daughter and not too long after she was just a part of the family as though it was meant to be. She is a great piece of my sunshine and this day with her will be much, much brighter than I could ever imagine it without her.

Once upon a time I had the sweetest friendship with a beautiful soul name Christy and she had the most adorable and energetic little sister. Tragedy took our sweet Christy from us much, much too soon and in this loss I gained a little sister. I've always adored her sparkly and energetic presence, her selfless love and compassion for everyone around her, and her heart of service for the Lord. My heart truly would never be the same without my beautiful sister by my side on this day.

There aren't enough characters to write our story on this page, but it begins in 5th grade with two girls who became arch enemies on the first day of the school. One was the school bully and the other the teacher's pet - I will let you guess who was who. Our teacher decided to snip our quarrels in the bud by pairing us together on a school project and the rest is history. I wish I could say the school bully retired, but she did not. But, over the years the two grew closer and closer together and formed a bond that no other in the world could possibly share or replace. We are best friends, blood sisters, soul sisters and carry each other's darkest tragedies and heartbreaks. We were the little girls who use to plan our weddings and on this day, our little girl dreams will come true.
