Things To Do

We both moved to Austin in 2021. Since then, we have fallen in love with several places that we'd like to share with you. Scroll for activities, restaurants, live music & honky-tonks...

-- Activities --

Walk Around Lady Bird Lake

Walk Around Lady Bird Lake

Austin, TX

We walk around Lady Bird Lake everyday with our puppy, Maggie. There's a trail that wraps around the lake (~10 mile full loop). There are plenty of ways to get on it. If you're staying at any of the hotels, simply walk South on Rainey Street until you hit the dirt path! It's a perfect morning walk or sunset stroll where you can enjoy the peaceful contrast of nature right in the heart of downtown.

Hang Out at Zilker Park

Hang Out at Zilker Park

Zilker Metropolitan Park, Austin, TX 78746, Austin, TX 78746

Zilker is a large metropolitan park just outside the city where we've celebrated friends' birthdays, attended concerts like Austin City Limits and flown kites at Austin's Kite Festival. It's a cool spot to relax and take in the Austin skyline. Bring a blanket or something to sit on if you go!

Cool Off at Barton Springs Pool

Cool Off at Barton Springs Pool

2201 William Barton Drive,

This natural spring-fed pool stays a refreshing 68-74 degrees year-round. Spread out a towel on the grassy slopes surrounding the pool and take a dip in this Austin treasure that locals have been enjoying for generations. Costs $10 per person to enter after 8AM (free before 8AM).

Shop on South Congress

Shop on South Congress

South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX

South Congress is an iconic street in Austin with local and high-end shops, restaurants and coffee shops. We love Two Hands for breakfast/brunch, Joe's for coffee and Jeanies for ice cream.

Grab a Drink on Rainey Street

79 Rainey St, Austin, TX 78704
, 16106084881

Walkable from our hotel recommendations, Rainey Street is known for its historic nightlife scene. We would go there for college game days, birthdays or "why not" days. Although high-rises and construction has taken over, there are several eclectic homes transformed into bars that are fun to check out. You can go during the day or at night.

Terry Black's Barbecue

1003 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704

Terry Black's is an Austin institution serving authentic Central Texas barbecue. We love the brisket, sausage and turkey, but all the meat is smoked to perfection. The sides are equally delicious. Only the bravest shoot for the beef rib...

Elizabeth Street Café

1501 South 1st Street, Austin, TX 78704

One of our favorites! Vietnamese-style food with a cute atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Granny's Tacos

1401 East 7th Street, Austin, TX 78702

Our favorite taco joint. We recommend getting a Migas (or three)! Food truck located in an area that's fun to walk around and grab a cocktail after.

-- Live Music --

The Rustic Tap

613 West 6th Street, Austin, TX 78701

Great for football games or live music! Music typically doesn't start until 8PM.

White Tiger

1321 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704

Back patio bar with live music right off South Congress! Can get loud

The Continental Club

1315 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704

Rock, country, jazz & blues artists! Legendary "old school" bar off South Congress.

-- Honky-tonk Bars --

Broken Spoke

3201 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704

Might just be the most authentic honky-tonk bar in town. Ladies, be prepared for an older gentleman to throw their $1,000+ cowboy hat on you and attempt to teach you the Texas Two Step! Gents, just let it happen.

The White Horse

500 Comal Street, Austin, TX 78702

Smaller, more intimate Cowboy bar (short Uber from the hotels).
