New York City, New York

Our Story

From bartending, to long distance dating, to raising a dog... it only took us 9 years to get here.

Dan and I met while bartending in Boston, and shared many flirtations at work, late night drinks after hours, and a love of good food, candlepin bowling and curating the perfect charcuterie board. Dan had committed to a two and a half year service in the Peace Corps, and left 5 months after we began dating. Two years later he returned. Despite it all, the long distance wasn't that bad (just kidding, it was awful). In 2013 we moved to East Boston and adopted a doggo named Goose (the sweetest guy you could imagine). After 5 years of Boston living, we decided it was time to explore another city - New York! With Goose's blessing, we packed up the house and moved. We are slowly becoming New Yorkers (are losing our Bahstan accents), and love a good slice of pizza; can admit that there are no bagels like New York bagels; and can finally navigate the subway!

The Engagement

In July 2019 we were both traveling for work - I was in London and Dan was in Paris. He came to visit me in London for a long weekend, and then we spent another week apart as our business trips came to a close. When we arrived home, Dan made plans for a night out to celebrate our return. We pulled up in front of the restaurant, and could tell something was amiss; chefs were out in the street and there were more people outside than in. Unbeknown to us, there had been a blackout, causing electrical outages through the entire city block, and the restaurant was closed. We decided to wander Midtown looking for a place to eat. While walking in front of the Christie's Sculpture Garden, I was admiring a statue, and Dan got down on one knee. I was so surprised I froze, and didn't answer his proposal. Dan had to prompt "Is that a yes?" Of course it was! We got some clapping from passersby, and later celebrated with oysters and champagne at the Monkey Bar (attached to the Hotel Elysee) across the street- now one of our favorite places. By the way, Dan had been carrying the ring with him all through his work travels, including during our visit in London (in case the perfect moment arose). What a sneaky guy.
