As two modern individuals, living in the big city, New York City that is, Heather and Kevin did what any two people looking for love would do. They joined an internet dating site, E-harmony was Kevin's first and only choice. Heather, however, was searching in all the wrong places. Suddenly, one lonely black Friday Heather got an email from E-harmony, with an offer she couldn't refuse. It was the only Black Friday purchase she made that year. Kevin and Heather were able to finally meet! They spoke online and made their plans to meet up after the Holiday Season. So began the adventure of a lifetime.
Their first meet up was at Argo Tea near Union Square. Heather was early, as is her way. She took the opportunity to scope out The Strand Bookstore. They hit it off over books, writing aspirations and stories of their differing upbringings. Heather is a small-town girl, and Kevin grew up in the city. It was basically the beginnings of a Journey song. After tea they walked around the city, stopping in Union Square to share their first kiss as a statue of Gandhi looked on approvingly.
Two thousand eighteen was a big year for Heather and Kevin. Kevin was moved to a different department at the VA where he works. Heather started grad school and started a new job as a school librarian. They adopted a rescue dog, Cheddar. Kevin knew that after Heather was finished with her first semester, she needed a break. He took her away on a secret trip for her birthday. She had no idea where she was driving to but trusted her adventure buddy. He took her to Idaho Springs, Colorado where they spent the weekend relaxing at the Indian Hot Springs. He made sure she felt relaxed, special and loved. They had a couples massage, a private hot tub, and dinner out on the town. (Hot Wings! Heather's Favorite.) When they returned to their private cabin with ice cream and brownies to celebrate Heather's birthday, Kevin suggested that they eat them outside. Seeing as it was December and cold Heather thought he was crazy but humored him because she loved him. Outside they enjoyed their treats as Kevin sang her, Happy Birthday. Afterward, they decided to do some stargazing. As they looked up at the stars, Kevin told Heather how much he loved her and how he wanted her to be his adventure buddy forever. Suddenly, he got down on one knee, in the gravel, outside the cabin and proposed. They hugged and kissed and then Heather dragged him inside to see the ring as it was dark out.
