IN LIFE ITS NOT WHERE YOU GO, IT'S WHO YOU TRAVEL WITH...

We were introduced by our mutual friend Martin Tong. Martin had a group gathering at iDarts Toronto with his high school friends (Kevin) and invited Melina, who was a colleague from work (all the way from Michigan). Kevin was not deterred by Melina's horrendous dart-throwing skills (alcohol may have played a part). They kept in touch while Melina was still finishing up residency in Michigan. Kevin cooked for Melina on their first date and found his way to her stomach... I mean heart :)! The rest is history.

Melina was on a camping trip to Grand Canyon with her friends. The permit is quite difficult to obtain and space was limited. One month prior to the trip, Kevin thought that it might be a good idea to surprise Melina at the Grand Canyon. After two weeks of calling the Havasu reserve, he finally got an additional permit. Kevin had another two weeks left to book his flight, buy camping equipment and plan a big trip all with Melina none the wiser! He ended up flying out before Melina, remembering to text her before and after his flight so that she thought he was still in Toronto. Not only was it a 10 mile hike into the campsite, but Kevin had to lug all of his camping gear on his back. By the time Kevin reached the campsite, Melina was already asleep. The Havasu reserve is known for their beautiful waterfalls, so Kevin decided to camp for the night and wait until the next afternoon so that the scenery would be perfect. Kevin’s desire and willingness to travel no matter the distance for Melina led him to fly 2,235 miles, drive 223 miles and hike 10 miles (for a total of 2,468 miles) to give Melina the perfect proposal surrounded by Havasu falls. He took her by complete surprise when he crept up behind her and got down on one knee. She of course... said “YES!”.
