How our love grew ♥

Where We Met

We met at O'Connor's on 2 different occasions. The first time we met, Billy caught my eye but he seemed like he wanted nothing to do with me. He would avoid eye contact and turn away from me and even ignored me when I tried to talk to him (he now says its because he was shy). Then 7 months later (after I had completely forgotten about the cute boy who ignored me) the tables turned when we met each other again. This time he was shooting his shot, hard, but I could not be bothered. I wanted nothing to do with him and would have rather been home in bed and yet he somehow still got me to agree to go out with him. It wasn't until weeks later when we were out with friends that someone had slipped up and mentioned that he remembered me from the first time and didn't want to miss his shot twice.

Our First Date

Our first date we decided on dinner and drinks at Clubhouse. We spent the whole night laughing so much that we completely forgot to order dinner!

Our Second Date

After having missed dinner the first time around we agreed to go out again and actually get dinner. We went to Downtown Rochester to see the lights and had so much fun walking around and talking we completely forgot to get dinner... again! Haha we ended up settling for beers and an app before we ended the night jamming to childhood favorites in the car.

Our Third Date

Our 3rd date was New Years Eve. Initially I had to work but finished up early and messaged Billy last minute to see if he was free. He already had plans with his friends but asked me to join them. Now I thought it would be out at a bar and agreed... Until I pulled up to the address he gave me and it was his friend's house. Too late to back out, I told him I was there and he came out to my car to walk me in (what a gentleman). That night, on only our 3rd date I got to meet some of Billy's closest friends... who had apparently already known all about me. It was an intense 3rd date but easily one of my favorites! We did make it out to the bar and had a blast dancing in the new year. But still no dinner.

When Sami Knew

I knew I wanted to spend my life with Billy after our 3rd date and more and more with every date after that. He made me laugh and we always had genuine fun together, but more than anything he made me feel comfortable and secure with him. He felt like home.

When Billy Knew

I had a good idea early on that Sami was the one, but really knew I wanted to spend my life with her the day she left for Jerusalem. I was at work & couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted to tell her that I loved her before she left, but I wanted to say it in person first. I remember she called me before boarding the plane & I wouldn't be hearing from her for quite some time and I wanted badly to say those three words to her. So I improvised & told her something like "Hey, without saying it, I, ya know, a lot, like more than anything in the world" & without hesitation she said "Yeah, I love you too" & it was a really cool feeling because we both understood what the other was saying & feeling without saying it & that's when I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

Our Dinner Date

Finally, on our 4th date Billy made us reservations at Kruse & Muer and we made it to dinner! The drinks were great, the pasta was amazing, but getting to laugh with him for hours was my favorite. At one point we both just started laughing and we didn't know why and that made it funnier. I mean the type of laughs that make your stomach hurt and eyes water. Pretty soon we were out of breathe and probably looked crazy, but we didn't care in the slightest. We had completely forgotten there were even other people in the restaurant with us until an elderly lady who was on her way out stopped by our table to tell us she loved watching us laugh so much and hoped we always had that much fun together. We hope so too!

Water-lantern Festival

We had a date to go to a water-lantern festival, where you get to decorate a lantern and there's music and food trucks and then after the sun sets you release your lanterns and watch them float away. It was a very cute idea and planned for early May before I would be leaving on my long trip. Well the day came and it was freezing out! Now everyone who knows me, knows I am miserable when I am cold. But I put on a few extra layers of fleece and we set out! We had just started decorating our lanterns when it started to pour down. We were freezing and wet and still didn't let that stop us, haha. We finished the party in our car with some spiked hot chocolate and music. When the sun finally went down and the rain stopped we marched to the water and watched our lanterns float away!

Our First Trip

Before I had met Billy, I had a long standing trip planned to backpack through Eastern Europe. We had only been dating for about 3 months when Billy decided he was going to meet me in Europe and take part of the trip with me. He took 16 days off from work and school and flew all the way to Amsterdam to meet me! I think we can both honestly say it was the most amazing trip of our lives. We hardly knew each other and were navigating through places we had never been to, where we didn't speak the language or know the roads, carrying soo much weight in luggage 😂 but we managed to make it through 5 countries and countless cities. Multiple bus rides, a few missed stops, and one amazing road trip down the coast of Croatia. I think when the 16 days were over it was probably our hardest goodbye.

How He Proposed

Billy called on a Friday morning and asked if I would go on a date with him that night. Of course I said yes and asked what he had in mind. The dog park and dinner, my two favorite things: Oliver and food! (I knew he was up to something when he told me to dress up since we both usually prefer sweats and our favorite dive bar.) When we were at the dog park we went for a stroll through the woods with our bubbas. As Oliver roamed and ran, Billy walked me over to this alley of trees and paused for a second, then he got down on one knee, said some mushy sweet stuff, and popped the question. I cried, he cried, Oliver had no idea what was happening.
