Our Catholic wedding ceremony will celebrated in the form of the Tridentine Mass/Traditional Latin Mass (TLM). The TLM is a beautiful Mass that has been celebrated for over 1500 years. Our parish, Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church (Tampa, FL), celebrates the Traditional Latin Mass and we have grown to love it for its beauty, reverence, and historical continuity. We are grateful for the opportunity to have the wedding ceremony under this form and we hope to see everyone there!
The Novus Ordo Mass ("English Mass") we're all used to, was introduced after the Traditional Latin Mass in the 1960s. • In the Traditional Latin Mass, the Priest predominantly speaks Latin. However, Bible readings and homilies are typically said in English. Not to worry though, we will have booklets you can use that contain both Latin and English prayers and responses so you can follow along. Don’t feel the need to follow word for word though. • The Priest is facing ad orientem (to the east) aka looking the same way as us. • The Mass is more silent, cultivating an environment of reverence, reflection, and prayer. • Communion is done kneeling down and on the tongue. Receiving our Lord in this manner was the practice for centuries. At the communion rail, the faithful would go up to receive communion kneeling down while the Priest would distribute Communion on the tongue.
