In high school we had Freshman PE together but we didn't officially meet until a bit later, during Homecoming week in October 2013. We exchanged numbers when our friend groups crossed paths before the homecoming football game, and it wasn't long before we started chatting more in person and over text (Matt used a battered old Nokia that Kate still makes fun of to this day). We officially became a couple on March 6th, 2014, after much ribbing and encouragement from everyone around us :) High school saw us through many milestones, and surprisingly few shared classes. Our relationship was known enough that even teachers would comment on it. Mrs Cunningham, our Junior Year English teacher, once stopped the entire class to point out to Matt how nice Kate looked when she passed by the classroom window. Mrs. Morgan, our Sophomore Year Honors Chemistry teacher, sat us together purposefully with each seating chart (that was our last shared class). After four years together at DHS, we went long distance as Kate went to study Nursing at the University of Portland and Matt went to study Biology at UC Davis. Long distance was tough, with Kate studying abroad in Austria and Matt logging in lots of time with his community service fraternity. Texting, Facetime, and summer breaks were the relationship savior. As college graduation was coming into view, Kate and her family decided to relocate to Oregon permanently. To put an end to the long distance, Matt moved up there in September of 2021. Two jobs and an apartment later, we have now bought a townhouse, made many new friends, and adopted our very spoiled cat Junie. We are so excited to start this newest chapter with all our friends and family by our side. We hope to see you all September 6th!
