Franconia Notch State Park
~20-30min from Owl's Nest, pending which part of park you visit. Franconia Notch State Park is a scenic mountain pass in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, nestled between the Franconia and Kinsman ranges. The park is home to natural landmarks like Flume Gorge, the Basin, and the site of the Old Man of the Mountain. Visitors can ride the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, which carries guests to the 4,080-foot summit for panoramic views of four states and Canada. At the top, amenities include hiking trails, a café, restrooms, and an observation deck. At the north end of the park, Echo Lake Beach offers swimming, fishing, and boat rentals, with facilities like restrooms, changing rooms, picnic tables, and a snack bar.
Plymouth
~15min from Owl's Nest Plymouth is a picturesque New England town at the foothills of the White Mountains, where mountain views meet college-town energy. In June, it’s full of life, green hills, river dips, and just enough students to keep the coffee strong and the pizza hot. Home to Plymouth State University, the town has a laid-back charm, with cozy local shops, hiking trails, and that magical vibe where you can go from a nature walk to a bookstore without changing out of your sandals. It’s low-key, a little quirky, and easy to love.
Woodstock
~20min from Owl's Nest Woodstock is a tiny mountain town with big personality, equal parts hiking haven and beer break central. In June, it's all pine trees, waterfalls, and that fresh air that makes you suddenly very passionate about nature (or at least patio seating with a view). It’s got local breweries (Twins Barns Brewing Co., One Love Brewery, & Woodstock Inn Brewery to name a few), riverside lounging, and just enough shops to make you think, “Should I buy this flannel?”
Littleton
~40min from Owl's Nest Littleton is New Hampshire’s answer to a postcard, charming Main Street, covered bridge, and a candy store that goes on for days (literally, it has the world’s longest counter). In June, everything blooms, the river sparkles, and locals act like it’s a big city because there’s a brewery and a music shop. It’s cozy, walkable, and just the right mix of outdoorsy and “let’s sit on a patio and pretend we hike.”
