For a year, we lived across the hall from each other, saying the occasional, "Hello. How are you?" But I was intrigued with the girl across the hall. It was one of those lonely summer nights in Helena. We were both home from out summer jobs. It was a perfect storm of boredom, loneliness, and courage. I sat in my apartment that early evening, bored out of my mind, and I thought, "why not”. After bantering with myself on how to approach her, I finally simply said, "GO!”. I knocked and I waited for a bit, but there was no answer - PLAN. SHOT. DOWN. She must have been out or already had plans, I thought. I came to find out she was getting Subway. Food is always first for Holly. In any other moment, I would call that as a defeat but for whatever reason, I really wanted to ask her out. So naturally, me being a millennial used the ole Insta message. I sent her a message asking if she would join me at the East Helena Rodeo. Buzz. Holy crap, she responded back. SHE ACCEPTED THE OFFER! We got into my vehicle and started driving toward East Helena, but then I realize I forgot my wallet. Strike one. After retrieving my wallet, the rodeo portion of the night had concluded, which then transitions into their annual street dance. I figured we would get a drink and enjoy a night of dancing. As we approach the bar, Holly quietly says, "I'm not 21 yet." Wow, strike two for the worst date ever. Holly, for whatever reason feels horrible and demands me to join my friends while she would take my vehicle and come get me at the conclusion of the night. That is definitely strike three, and it all happened within an hour of our date. To be honest it may be easier to describe the things that went right on our first date, but then it wouldn't be as funny. The next day I thought, "What a disaster. She will never want to see me again." Little did I know she wouldn't only give me a second chance or a third, but she would give me her hand in marriage.
