It all started with a dance… On September 9, 2023, our best friends Clay and Kalyn got married, and somehow that day became the beginning of our story too. Now, let’s be clear, this was not love at first sight. Not even a double look. We had crossed paths before at Tuskegee University, always connected through friends but never really paying each other any attention. Honestly, that was probably God’s timing. We weren’t ready yet. We both had growing to do. Fast forward to the wedding. The ceremony was beautiful, and pictures were done. She finally finished her Maid of Honor duties and took a breath. He was doing his part too, being the good groomsman. Both of them were busy, moving, handling responsibilities, until the moment the night loosened. It was finally time to enjoy it. Everyone was dancing, laughing, taking pictures, and just having a good time. She sat down for a second. He noticed her, really noticed her. She looked beautiful, and he needed to say something. “Can I have this dance?” he asked. She said yes and took his hand. She does not remember the song, and in her version of events, he did not step on her toes. In his version, he absolutely did, more than once. That night, after one last group picture and sending the newlyweds off, he got her number. Just like that, it ended with a beginning. She will tell you that at first she did not think he was interested. But Kalyn told her, “Just give him a chance. He is a good guy.” So she did. She stopped overthinking and just let things flow. Two weeks later, the first date happened. He planned it. Picked her up. Opened her door, because that is who he is, and took her to his favorite sushi spot. She enjoyed herself. The conversation felt easy, like neither of them had to force the moment. The night had that rare feeling of being both exciting and comfortable. Then she did something deeper than she probably realized at the time. She planned his birthday dinner at Morton’s The Steakhouse. She saw it as a way to celebrate him and make him feel special. In December, they took a trip to the mountains. It rained the whole weekend, but somehow it was perfect. Before he asked her to be his girlfriend, he gave her a speech where he put words to what he felt, how he cared about her, and how he felt about them. For her, that weekend became one of those memories that loops back at random times, the kind that plays in your head without warning. For him, it was perfect because it let them celebrate being exclusive and truly relax. No distractions, no rushing, just the two of them. Somewhere along the way, they said “I love you.” They met each other’s families, and most importantly, he met Isabella. That meant everything to her, because it was no longer just about them. It was about building a family. They continued to travel, laugh, and grow together, and then came one of the best days of her life. He planned the most beautiful engagement, surrounded by family and friends. In that moment, she realized she gets to marry her best friend. From a dance we barely remember to a forever we will never forget. 🤍
