They first met at the gym when Jacob came running across the parking lot yelling to get her attention. Hollie’s immediate reaction was to prepare for abduction, so she reached for her pepper spray… luckily she realized it was Jacob before pulling the trigger. After that slightly alarming first encounter, they exchanged numbers and went on their first date at Whataburger. Jacob, however, claims to have absolutely no memory of this date, which Hollie still hasn’t quite let him live down. Over the next few years, Jacob repeatedly asked Hollie to hang out. Hollie repeatedly said no—somewhere between three and seven times (the exact number is still debated). Eventually life took them in different directions and they went their separate ways for a while as they both focused on growing in their relationship with God. But as it turns out, God had other plans. One day Jacob saw Hollie comment on a TikTok post, and something told him he should reach out to her again. When he came home from college, they decided to meet up for ice cream and catch up after all that time. What started as a simple catch-up quickly turned into their first real date: Chick-fil-A, the movie Jesus Revolution, and country dancing afterward. If that combination doesn’t perfectly describe their relationship, they’re not sure what does. From that night on, everything just clicked. What started with almost getting pepper sprayed has turned into something far greater. Today, Jacob and Hollie are excited to continue growing together, pursuing their covenant with God, and beginning their life as a family.
