How We Met

A girl, a boy, and a pool hall...

Many of those who know us well, know the story of our first (and second) meeting because it is so us. It is a story with a little bit of fun, mixed with hi-jinx from friends, layered with a "too cool" dude, and a tough pool playing gal. For those of you who haven't heard us tell the tale over a glass of whiskey during a late night out in Fort Worth, here it goes! One Saturday night in the dark and not so glamorous neon glow of Rusty's Pool Hall, the leading lady of this tale was playing pool with her brother as they often did to prepare for an upcoming pool tournament. Across the room, the story's handsome star was hanging out with his best friend chatting and drinking to pass the time. It was at that moment when Mike looked around the room to see a new face among the familiar crowd. He leaned to his friend Gilbert and asked, "Do you know that woman over there with the flower in her hair?" Much to Mike's surprise, not only did he know her, but they played pool together all the time. Much to Mike's disappointment, this meant Gilbert (the world's worst wingman) was about to try his hand at matchmaking. To make a long story a little shorter, when Mike stepped away after proclaiming his interest, Gilbert asked Holland on a date...for his friend. Yep, that was the smooth move. Holland having just gotten out of a few big relationships was looking for an independent strong guy to be her partner -- not someone who needed a friend to ask a girl out. So when Mike came back to try to talk to her (unaware of the failed request), she blew him off -- BAD! Well, the next night either really, really into the woman with the flower in her hair or just a glutton for punishment, Mike (after a secret text from Gilbert) came back to the pool hall to try his hand again and that Sunday night went totally different. Within five minutes of exchanging pleasantries, they had fallen into a conversation and everything else had fallen out of view. That was it.
