For anyone local or still in town, join us the Monday after the wedding on June 30th at 7:10pm for the Cincinnati Reds versus the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park! We will be sitting in Section G11 (Rows 13-16, Seats 1-9) if you would like to look for tickets nearby! The easiest way to get there from Rhode Island is to take the train, just pay attention to when the last train leaves. One option is to take the Commuter rail (Providence/Stoughton Line) from Providence or TF Green Airport to Ruggles and then walk 1 mile or take Uber/Lyft from there to Fenway Park. Last train out of Ruggles back to Providence is usually at 12:03am on weekdays. Check www.mbta.com to view their trip planner and schedules for other options. I will update details on which option we will be doing closer to the event.
The link below will take you to a Google Doc with more information and websites for each area listed. - Pawtuxet Village (Cranston/Warwick) - Wickenden Street/Fox Point (Providence) - Thayer Street (Providence) - Federal Hill (Providence) - Westminster Street (Providence) - Hope Street (Bristol) - Thames Street (Newport)
One of the smallest national memorial parks in the US, and the visitor center (open Wed-Fri 10am-4pm) is a great place to learn about probably the most important person in Rhode Island history, Roger Williams. According to my sources "they WILL trap you with that movie they play if there is more than one visitor. It's actually really good, but you have a constitutional right to refuse, thanks to you know who"...Roger Williams.
A short but uphill walk or drive from the Roger Williams Visitor Center is Prospect Terrace. From this city park, take in panoramic views of downtown Providence. The park's Roger Williams statue was designed by Ralph Thomas Walker and dedicated in 1939, with Roger WIlliam's remains since located in a tomb beneath his statue.
There are a large number of beaches to choose from! Located about 45 minutes away, my favorites are Narragansett Town Beach (cost to entry), Scarborough Beach (South), Galilee State Beach (now Salty Brine State Beach), and East Matunuck Beach. See the website linked below for general information including parking.
Located in Newport, RI, the 3.5 mile Cliff Walk has beautiful ocean views on one side and stunning, century-old, Gilded Age mansions on the other. See the website below for downloadable maps, points of interest, and parking information. You can walk by the mansions during the Cliff Walk, but paid tours of the buildings are also available (see www.newportmansions.org/plan-a-visit/). The most famous Newport Mansion is the Breakers, which was the Gilded Age summer "cottage" for the prominent Vanderbilt family (the same family who built the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina). Downtown Newport is also a beautiful area to walk around, shop, and eat. See this website for more information: https://www.discovernewport.org/
Take the ferry to Block Island from Narragansett/Point Judith. Guided tours are offered by land (Taxis that carry 8-10 people, and Bike Tours), air (Helicopter Tours) and sea (Kayak tours, Harbor tours), or explore on your own! See https://www.blockislandferry.com/faqs/ for specifics such as schedules and parking information.
