Catie and I met freshman year when I was moving into my dorm. She came in to see her old friend from high school, Sam, my roommate and soon to be best friend. At first, we weren't really sure if we would get along but as soon as we sat down in our first class, we knew we had chemistry, in more ways than one. - Jacob

Despite jokes about marrying each other one day only to make it easier to adopt babies and pets (guess which person wanted what) freshman year, there was no thought of romance on our radars for the first 2.5 years of our friendship. When I was in my last semester at Ferrum College, I realized I was actually in love with the partner in crime I'd had for years. I told Jacob in February and we started dating on March 6, 2020, and spent the next year and 3 months eating food and exploring whenever we had the chance! - Catie

I took Catie to the park for a picnic next to Smith Mountain Lake. I brought a succulent with pink flowers on it as table decor, lots of Catie's favorite things, and ended the picnic down on one knee when I asked her to be my best friend for the rest of our lives. - Jacob
