Daniel and Sami technically met for the first time in 7th grade but their journey towards romance began in early January of 2019 when they both swiped right on the online dating website Bumble. After talking for a few days they went on their first date. What was supposed to be drinks and pizza turned into a long night of talking, and laughing. Fast forward to March of 2019 and Daniel asked Sami to be his girlfriend while walking the streets of Portland after eating a few slices of pizza on their pizza tour. From that point on they started doing everything together. They cooked meals, grocery shopped and even shared their favorite TV shows with one another. Once they met each other's families for the first time, it became more apparent that this was something serious. After almost 2.5 years of dating and a 6.5 month engagement, Daniel and Sami officially professed their love for each other and tied the knot on July 16th, 2021.
-Daniel- In November Sami and I setup a date to go ring shopping. Of course Sami picked rose gold for her wedding band color (its easily one of her favorite colors). I ordered the ring the very the next day. Once I got the ring I knew it was the one. I ran ideas by my sister but didn't officially pick one till the day before Christmas Eve. I had it all planned out. We would play the Mandalorian monopoly and I would sneak some “will you marry me” cards into the decks. Unfortunately, on Christmas Eve we played monopoly and after both Sami and I lost, I didn't think either of us would be wanting to play anytime soon. After some convincing I got Sami to look at the cards. When she came across one of the “special ones” I was waiting with the ring in hand. I am sure you can guess what she said. -Sami- Daniel asked me to go ring shopping with him sometime in November. I was adamant that I didn't want Daniel to purchase anything on the visit so that he could choose what he wanted to give me and it would still be a surprise. I really tried to keep my expectations low of when or how Daniel would propose. At stop one of our Christmas celebrations, Daniel gave me a small necklace with my initial on it and I expected that would be the only jewelry I would get for the holidays. At stop two of our Christmas celebrations, we played (and I lost) a very long and heated round of monopoly. On Christmas morning, we drove to Daniel's apartment to drop off some of our gifts and Daniel suggested that we play the Mandalorian Monopoly soon, to which I responded "I can't play another game of monopoly for at least a month." He was persistent and said that I needed to look at the cards because Baby Yoda was so cute. I waited for Daniel on his couch, mask hanging from one of my ears, when he came out with the game. Inside the box I found the card that read "I think Yoda best in the Universe, Will you marry me?" and there was Daniel on one knee. The rest is history!
