Question

Where did you guys meet?

Answer

The internet of course! After talking for about a month they met at an Upper West Side bar and talked about judge shows from the 90s, dinosaur movies, and zombies. Sam didn’t think Michelle would want snacks and was very wrong. A few weeks later Michelle would suggest they go to a Yankee game and sit in the bleachers which Sam found very endearing. Go Yankees! Later came the biggest test of all...Gracie's approval, which, after an under the table deal to always give her scratchies and cheese snacks, Gracie gave, and the rest is history. Oh and then Sam moved to Los Angeles to finish his training at UCLA and despite the distance Michelle and Sam talked on FaceTime every night, flew back and forth to see each-other, and had a blast traveling the world together. After finishing his final year of training (Thank God, twelve years is a long time 😅), Sam moved back to New York for good.

Question

Why get Married in Germany?

Answer

Sam and Michelle met up in Germany for their first trip together, and had a magical time in Berlin and Munich at Oktoberfest. They say that you learn a lot about a relationship when you travel together and Michelle and Sam learned how much fun it was to explore together (food, museums, old castles, dancing in Oktoberfest tents, and making friends with one random elderly German man who Sam deeply regrets not getting the contact info for) . They also learned how well they complimented one another even when things didn’t go perfectly…Im looking at you German lady who quite rudely informed us that we missed our bus to see the fairy tail castles of Bavaria. So it only felt right to get married in the place where it all started.

Question

Why do Germans charge for water in restaurants?

Answer

We don't know.

Question

Can I grab some napkins from an eatery if I am having a sneezing attack?

Answer

No. Like water, napkins are not for your enjoyment without payment.

Question

I ordered coffee but I keep getting an Americano? What's the deal?

Answer

Ask for Filterkaffee if you don't want diluted espresso, you silly American!

Question

Do Germans speak English?

Answer

Natürlich! That means of course :)

Question

Do I really have to wear Lederhosen or Drindel to Oktoberfest?

Answer

Short answer no. Long answer yes. While the Germans wont throw you out, almost everyone dresses up, and part of the fun is getting into the spirit of the occasion. The whole city is celebrating that week and so Munich will be full of people dressed for the occasion. Here are some good places to start: https://traditionallederhosen.com https://lederhosens.com https://lederhosenverleih.de/en/collections/herren/products/traditional-vest The site above and other similar sites either sell or rent lederhosen

Question

Why are there so many bees in all the bakeries?

Answer

Sam spent a long time one day trying to figure this out and the answer is complicated. OK here we go. First you need to know about the concept of lüften. This is the practice of opening the windows of an indoor space to keep it well ventilated. Germans think fresh air is very important and will do this both in summer and the dead of winter no-matter how cold it is. To this end, many German people also have an aversion for air conditioners and think they are unhealthy . In the summer months, there are many bees throughout Germany, and the combination of constantly needing to open windows, and an abundance of bees means the bees get in to the places with sweet things, such as a bakery. Due to their abundance, and the difficulty of shooing them away, most Germans just accept that having a bunch of bees flying around the bakery is the cost of business.
