Kinkaider is one of our favorite places to go with our dog Skye, enjoy great local beer, and attend an occasional movie night during the summer. When Maya was in graduate school and Trent was in the first few years of his job, we would meet each other any Tuesday we could at Kinkaider for a beer and a couple of rounds of Scrabble. Maya's drink of choice would be the Snow Beast, while Trent would persuade you to try their IPA, Dragon Juice.
We love going to Holmes Lake to take our dog Skye on a walk. We have celebrated all of Skye's birthdays at Holmes. From walking the loop to having Sunday picnics here, this quickly became a weekend spot for us. Oh yeah, and this is where we got engaged!
During our undergrad days, the one day we were able to spend with each other was guaranteed on Sundays. We would also go out to lunch together, and Bison Witches was a staple. We have to recommend the Bison-sized Bloody Mary- it's a great house mix that will start your Sunday off with a kick. Maya's order: The California kid, Wisconsin cheese soup w/ a side of CCQ. Trent's order: The Reuben (double meat) w/ CCQ
Not only is ice cream one of our favorite desserts, but Maya used to work at the now-closed Haymarket location during her undergrad. 402 Creamery will have you hooked. Maya's favorite: a split scoop w/ a monthly flavor. Trent's favorite Monster cookie.
If Maya could count movies as one of her love languages, she would. Trent may not be as much of a movie buff, but he has happily been accompanying Maya to $5 Flicks for the past 5 years. Trent would recommend the newest box office Thriller and Maya would agree, although she loves a classic Rom-Com. Fun fact, one of Maya and Trent's first dates was watching The Notebook over Zoom during the summer of 2020. (ps. Trent cried at the end)
Chopsticks was introduced to us by Trent's sister-in-law, who grew up in Lincoln. The first NYE Maya spent with Trent and his Brother & wife, we ordered chopsticks takeout. For us, this has become a NYE staple ever since. Maya's order: peanut butter chicken with lo mein. Trent's: Mongolian chicken with Crab Rangoon.
