Carlos and Hiusan met in 2019 on Coffee Meets Bagel which is proof that the apps do work...sometimes. For their first date, Carlos took Hiusan to Dirty Nelly’s, a dive bar. Nothing triggers Hiusan more than a dive bar, especially one with booths, but she didn’t know how to say that on a first date, so she powered through. Luckily, the night was redeemed at Kevin’s Noodle House, where good food, easy conversation, and an unexpected connection made them both want to see each other again. As they kept talking, Carlos introduced his signature texting style: replying every 8-12 business hours. For reasons no one can explain, this made Hiusan like him more. But what really stood out was how steady and thoughtful Carlos was, he listened, showed up, and made Hiusan feel taken care of from the start. When it came time to make things official in 2020, Carlos had a plan… but didn’t quite execute it. So Hiusan did what she does best: stepped in, created a strategy, and essentially guided the situation so he would ask her, without realizing it was her plan the entire time. And honestly, that pretty much sums them up: Hiusan = CEO of Planning Carlos = calm, reliable, and smart enough to listen to the CEO Then COVID hit, and the world slowed down. While it was a heavy time, they found themselves in their own little happy bubble, building something real together away from everything else. In 2021, they welcomed their baby, Bao Bao, and officially became the kind of couple that revolves their lives around their dog. Carlos is the most patient dog dad, while Hiusan makes sure Bao Bao lives his best (and most spoiled) life. Over the years, they’ve balanced each other in the best way, Hiusan brings the plans, the energy, and the vision, while Carlos brings the patience, calm, and steady support that keeps everything grounded. So when it came time for the proposal… Hiusan may or may not have also been involved in the planning. But when Carlos proposed in December 2024, it was still a moment filled with so much love and proof that even when Hiusan has a plan, Carlos listens, executes, and always shows up. What started as a questionable dive bar date somehow turned into something that just made perfect sense. And now, they can’t wait to celebrate with all of you 🥂
