Our Love Story

Proof that stealing straws works

Kyle and Carly have been part of the same friend group for over 15 years. What Carly didn’t know for most of that time was that Kyle always had a thing for her. Fast forward many years later to Vancouver, BC—where Kyle finally made his move… by stealing flamingo straws from a bar because Carly liked them. (Romantic gestures come in many forms.) After their Vancouver adventures, Kyle and Carly went on their first official date to see the Barbie movie, and it didn’t take long for them both to realize there was something truly special there. They quickly became official, and on July 1, 2024, Carly and her dog Clooney moved in with Kyle in Port Perry. Also waiting for them was Lola, Kyle’s beloved dog. Lola was a particular lady, but in her own time and in her own way, she grew to love Carly and Clooney. Carly quickly learned that loving Kyle meant loving Lola too. On October 11, 2024, the passing of Lola was a heartbreaking loss—not only for Kyle, but for Carly as well. Though her time with them was short, Lola left a permanent paw print on their hearts. In 2025, their family grew again when they adopted Monroe, officially making them a family of four. For their two-year anniversary on October 3, 2025, Kyle and Carly planned a romantic getaway to Haute Goat Farms, complete with goats, alpacas, and a night spent in a stargazing dome. What Carly didn’t know was that Kyle had an even bigger surprise planned. Kyle got down on one knee, Carly said yes—and the night took a sharp turn when Carly broke her wrist in two places (thankfully on her non-ring hand), ending their celebration at the hospital. While it wasn’t the night either of them expected, it became one they’ll never forget—and truly the best day ever. They can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives together, continuing their adventures… hopefully with fewer injuries.
