I was working at a local sports bar called Wing Shack. R.J. and his friends were regulars. They always sat with another server that they knew from high school. Wing Shack was an Eagles bar. R.J. is a Cowboys fan. One day, the Cowboys were the 4 pm game after the Eagles played at 1. There was a bit of an altercation - some yelling back and forth between some Eagles fans sitting in my section and R.J.'s table. Wing Shack's bouncer went to kick R.J. out as a result. I stepped in and explained the Eagles fans were the problem and that R.J. shouldn't have to leave. The bouncer agreed and let R.J. stay and kicked out the Eagles fans. He thanked me and we both went about our day. After R.J. and his friends left, the server that was friends with them got a text - "Your friend with the short hair is really cute. What's her name so I can add her on Facebook?" She got my permission and gave him my name. I was so excited because I thought he was cute too! He added me on Facebook that day and we started chatting. He asked me for my number that night and we have been talking ever since - every day since then in fact!
After 5 long years, we bought a ring. And then life went on. I was expecting him to propose when we were back in Orlando for a vacation. I wasn't expecting anything. I was planning Mattress Firm Atlanta's Christmas party and had a meeting with the venue. Michelle, my MOH, called me the night before to tell me she had a meeting in Atlanta she forgot about and wanted to know if I wanted to get lunch after. The day of, I wasn't feeling great. I tried to cancel on Michelle and she begged me to come to Piedmont Park to be with her and a friend of ours who's boyfriend had just broken up with her. I reluctantly agreed and bargained that we would be there for no more than 30 minutes so I wouldn't have to pay for parking. R.J. had a dentist appointment and we planned to meet later on. After arriving to Piedmont Park, Michelle met me in the parking garage and we went to find our heartbroken friend. We walked for what seemed like forever without finding her. I was getting annoyed and Michelle called "her" and said she was just up ahead. We walked past a staircase where some women were standing chatting with their babies. We came up to a bathroom and Michelle said that our friend might be inside. I went in looking for her and then checked behind the building too. When I came around the corner, R.J. was standing there! I was confused and my first reaction was anger - I thought he skipped his dentist appointment to have lunch with me and Michelle. I started to yell and curse (my typical response) and turned to Michelle to ask her if she told him where we were. She was filming and laughing and when I turned back to R.J., he was down on one knee! He said some really sweet things that I don't remember and I started to cry so I never said yes! Michelle had to ask me after he put the ring on my finger and stood up if I said yes! I obviously did and was then very confused that the whole day had been a ruse to surprise me!
