Question

Insider Tips*

Answer

--- Do people speak English? --- Yes!!! English is one of the official languages of the Philippines and is very widely spoken. You will have no trouble communicating with resort staff, airport personnel, or shop owners in El Nido and Boracay. The locals always appreciate a friendly "Salamat" (Thank you!). --- What is the local currency? --- The official currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). While major resorts like Pangulasian Island and the Shangri-La accept credit cards, we recommend carrying some cash for smaller purchases, local markets, or tips. It's a good idea to exchange some money/withdraw Pesos at the airport in Manila before heading to the islands. Current exchange rate is about 61 PHP to 1 USD. Make sure to leave room in your bags to bring back some Birkenstocks :) --- Best way to get around once I land? --- In the Philippines, 'Grab' is the king of ride-sharing - it's essentially the "Uber of Southeast Asia." Download the app 'Grab' before landing. You can book cars, taxis, and even order food. It's reliable, safe and convenient for getting to and from places. --- What is the weather like in December? --- December is one of the best times to visit the Philippines! It is the dry season, so expect plenty of sunshine and temperatures around 80 degrees to 86 degrees F. --- Hydration? --- Stick to bottles or filtered water provided by the resorts. --- Should I bring a gift? --- Your presence at our wedding - especially considering the distance traveled - is the greatest gift we could ask for. Please do not feel obligated to bring anything other than yourself and your party pants.
