Matt & I have the same story on how we met, but the story of how we became "us" well, we have different versions. How we met...I was working out at the gym and my trainer at the time suggested I go try out this new healthy restaurant called "Source. Eat Fit". The first time I went in to the store I met a charming man who introduced himself, helped me pick out food and then stapled his business card to the menu and told me to come back (I have since asked him how many times he stapled his business card to a menu...I was the only one). From there I became a customer and a huge cheerleader for his store. I saw him weekly and at one point thought about hooking him up with a single girl friend of mine. Quickly we became Facebook friends and well, found out he was in a relationship. For the next several weeks I would visit his store, sit down with him and talk to him for what felt like hours. In January 2015 I moved to Dallas for the second time and from there we became long distant pals.
A couple months after I moved to Dallas Matt and I both became single (this is where our stories differ). Lets just get this out of the way...I sort of hit on him first in a very indirect way BUT he for sure made the first "move" and I have proof. I did notice one day while trolling on Facebook that the standard profile picture with your significant other had changed so I creeped some more. At this point we had been communicating via Facebook and it was around his birthday so I thought I would reach out and see how things were going with Source. I may have dropped that "how is your relationship going?" damn right knowing that it was over. So we both explained how we were both single and catching up on life. Several weeks later and several Facebook chat convos back and forth I did drop this line "if you get bored with using Facebook i guess i would allow you to text me (insert number)"...I have always said I have ZERO game but I guess it worked, because he started texting me. Fast forward to many phone conversations, texting and about 5 months later it was time to visit my bestie in Lincoln. Our first official date was at Lazlo's (Rainbow Chicken for life). He was the perfect gentleman. Picked me up, open my car door, let me drink as many skinny margaritas as I wanted and took me home...no kiss. It wasn't till a few days later after another date that we pulled up to Alli & Troy's house (where I basically lived for a month) and Matt decided to share his feelings for me. It was a sweet, sincere moment where we both sort of knew we wanted to be with each other. He leaned over in his truck and we had our first kiss. Over the next few months he met my friends, family and after that I knew it was a done deal. The story of "us" officially began!
December 22nd. We had just arrived in Vegas for the holidays the night before. As we always do when we are home we had to catch a Knights game (as always thank you Gregg & Lisa). I was getting ready and Matt had mentioned that he had an "early Christmas/birthday gift" for me. Matt and I are terrible at keeping cool things a secret from one another so he shared the "plans". Since we wanted to gift each other memories and not gifts this year he said he called Gregg and asked him for some help. Matt told me that we would need to get to the game early so we could watch warmups in the penalty box. Boyfriend of the Year! We get to T Mobile arena and side note; Matt is calm, I had ZERO idea him and my parents had something else planned. We are in the penalty box and I am glued to the glass taking videos and photos of all the players (I had a few fan girl moments). Towards the end of warm ups I was given a bag from Matt, my parents and the Golden Knights for my birthday. I opened it up and it was a Knights Jersey (something I had asked for). I pulled it out of the bag and my first thought was "shit I hope it fits and I hope they put "Vegas Born" and the number 87 on the back. I turned it around to see ZIMMERMAN plastered on the back. I thought it was a sick joke from Matt basically saying one day I could wear this. As I brought down the jersey Matt was on one knee. Did not see it coming, started crying, heard fans cheer us on and didn't say yes until he asked me "so is that a yes?". It was such an insanely special moment for us, my parents who were there and our friends in the crowd! I of course FaceTimed all my friends (who all knew, kuddos to keeping the secret) and the celebration began!
