This is the ultimate love story that almost wasn’t. For those who don’t believe that fate exists, this story might change your mind. Our paths could have easily never crossed. In fact, we both initially rejected the idea of making the trip to the lake house where we met. The lake house was the beginning of everything for us. Our best friends, Taylor and John (our Maid of Honor and Best Man), each asked us to come with them to Taylor’s family lake house on Cedar Creek Lake. With one of us on a one way flight home to Dallas after living in Los Angeles for six years and the other fresh out of law school, neither of us put a weekend in the middle of nowhere at the top of our list. After many “no ways”, we both agreed. Our friends placed bets on who would break whose heart. To their surprise (and ours) it was love at first sight. We were inseparable from the moment we laid eyes on each other. We stayed up all night talking on the dock, getting to know one another. Three days later, while in the Bahamas on family vacation, Alex refused to stop texting Brit at family dinner despite Bob’s orders. Hilliard family rule: no texting during dinner. One thing lead to another and Brit was on a plane to the Bahamas the next morning. Four days after that, Alex was meeting Brit’s parents and half of her extended family all in one swoop. Alex will tell you it was love at first sight. Brit would agree, but would also tell you he knew they were meant to be before she did. Fast forward a year and a half, Alex proposed on the same lake house dock where we had our first kiss. Our story is filled with unwavering support from the people we are lucky enough to call our friends and family. We can’t wait for forever, and are so thankful for everyone who will be going on this adventure with us!
