On January 31st, 2024, Brandon and I met on a blind double date at the Georgia vs. Alabama men’s basketball game in Stegman Coliseum. Thanks to our mutual friends, Anna Kathryn and Harrison, we’d heard about each other in passing for nearly a year. I was teaching third grade in Athens at the time, and Brandon was in his third year of medical school in Savannah. Despite our initial mutual hesitance about starting something new from a distance, we hit it off very quickly. During the game, Brandon talked about working with kids during his rotations, shared my love for Creature Comforts, and rapped a bit of Lil Wayne to end the night. He was (and still is) kind, compassionate, and genuinely the most fun to be around. We saw each other the next night for another double date. We met at The Root in Five Points, and continued to get to know one another while I beat him in pool. It was this night that Brandon asked me if I’d ever consider moving away from Athens, which felt like a subtle but meaningful question about where this might be headed. The months that followed were filled with phone calls, FaceTimes, long drives between Athens and Savannah, and even a flight to Oklahoma City over Easter, where Brandon met my parents. In March 2025, Brandon matched to the University of Virginia for his PM&R residency. Being a military brat and having spent formative years in Virginia myself, the idea of a move there felt less like a leap and more like a homecoming. I accepted a second grade teaching position at Greer Elementary, and for the first time, we were finally in the same city. In September, Brandon got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on a beautiful fall day while we were apple picking at Carter Mountain Orchard. We are excited to call Charlottesville home for the next three years and see all the Lord has in store for our next chapter together.
