How We Met

2-3-14

We met through mutual family friends while both working at Lynchburg General Hospital in 2014. I had gotten a phone call from a family friend telling me about a coworker looking for someone to meet her boyfriend’s son (The coworker and boyfriend are now husband and wife!) She told me all about him and gave me his name and told me to look him up on Facebook. I tried to look him up, but didn’t see anyone fitting the description she gave me of him. I gave up the search and a few days later, I got a friend request from him. I soon figured out why I couldn’t find him. His profile picture was of a fish... We became facebook friends, but hadn’t said anything to each other for about a week, so I sent him a message to break the ice. We talked for a while and finally met at the hospital. Ben used to wait for me after work to surprise me with Reese’s, my favorite candy! Our first date was to dinner at La Carreta in Madison Heights. We became “official” on February 3, 2014.

The Proposal

8-23-19

We were at Myrtle Beach for vacation in August 2019. Ben had been fretting and teasing me for a long time about getting engaged, saying things like, “If I gave you a ring, you wouldn’t wear it. You don’t wear a lot of the jewelry I’ve given you that much anyway.” He had been teasing me especially bad this week. The Friday before coming home, we were enjoying the pool and hot tub and Ben brought it up again, the frets continued! I had wondered if he was going to do anything this week, but figured with him talking and teasing so much, it wasn’t going to happen, it was the last day afterall! We decided to go out to eat that night at our favorite restaurant in Murrell’s Inlet, Lee’s Inlet Kitchen. We enjoyed a delicious meal and then later that evening decided to take one last walk on the beach before heading home the next morning. While walking, Ben kept stopping and “pulling his pants up,”or so I thought. I kept walking a few steps ahead of him, and all of a sudden Ben called my name and I turned around and there he was... DOWN ON ONE KNEE!! He had been fumbling with his pants pockets to get the ring out! I asked, “Are you serious!?” He said, “Yeah... Will you?” I said “Yes!” We were both excited and pretty sure hearts racing at that moment. We went back to the room to call family and friends to let them know. It was a great ending to a great vacation!
