It started in 2013 with a Spring Break service trip to Mississippi. Of 60 United Way volunteers, we ended up on the same team of 11, refurbishing an old house to be converted into a non-profit cafe. The Starfish Cafe (as it would be called) is where we first got to know one another. Dating long-distance had it's obstacles! We have our families to thank for hosting visits and sponsoring flights back and forth from Virginia to Indiana for two years. But ultimately, we closed the gap. In 2015 we moved into our first apartment together in Indianapolis, Indiana. Many mornings we spent running down four flights of stairs to let Mackey (our dog) outside. We just couldn't bring ourselves to trust "the oldest working elevator in Indianapolis" of which our building boasted! Back east we went in 2016! Sarah was a student at VCU and Jeremy worked at DuPont. Mackey loved the first floor Carytown apartment that allowed for use of the facilities without using the stairs! We enjoyed the river and the farmer's market, and Jeremy found his second true love- a brewery called Hardywood. But graduation came in 2018 and we packed our bags. We now call Colorado Springs, Colorado our home. Mackey is THRILLED to have a backyard, and seeing his excitement, we added another to the mix- Hazel! While the distance from family is hard, we love the scenery and activities Colorado has to offer. And oh the visitors! We have been so grateful to have many friends and family share an evening or weekend with us. (While 2020 was a quiet year, we hope travelers will stop by again soon.) It was in our home in Colorado that Jeremy proposed to Sarah with the pups by his side, a homemade meal prepared, and flowers in hand. Now we start a new journey together, and with you. It has been the love of family and friends that has brought us this far. We can't wait to thank you and celebrate together in Richmond, we have waited so long to see you!
