Airport Code: YYC Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Distance to Banff: Approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours drive (about 145 km or 90 miles) Flights from the US: Calgary (YYC) has direct flights from many major US cities. Round-trip flights from US cities to Calgary often start from around $175 - $300 USD, though prices vary greatly depending on your departure city and when you book. We recommend checking airlines like Air Canada, WestJet, United, American, and Delta. Ground Transportation from YYC to Banff: Banff National Park is a beautiful drive from Calgary. Since there is no airport in Banff, you have a few options for the final leg of your journey: 1. Scheduled Shuttle Bus: Approximate Travel Time: 1.5 - 2 hours Approximate Cost (One-Way): $50 - $90 USD (per person) Notes: Several companies (e.g., Banff Airporter, Brewster Express) offer frequent, comfortable service directly from YYC to most hotels in Banff. We strongly recommend booking your shuttle well in advance. 2. Rental Car: Approximate Travel Time: 1.5 - 2 hours Approximate Cost (One-Way): Variable (plus fuel and parking) Notes: Provides the most flexibility for sightseeing, but parking in Banff can be challenging and expensive, especially during peak season. You will also need a Park Pass (see below). 3. Private Car/Taxi Approximate Travel Time: 1.5 - 2 hours Approximate Cost (One-Way): $250 - $350 USD (per car) Notes: Best for large groups or those who prefer direct, private service.

Crossing the US-Canada Border: As a U.S. citizen, you will need to present a valid U.S. passport to enter Canada. Important: Please check the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) website for the most current entry requirements, as rules can change. Time Zone: Banff is on Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is the same as Mountain Time in the US. Banff National Park Pass: Everyone entering Banff National Park is required to purchase a Park Pass. Shuttle/Bus Riders: Your transportation service may include this, but please confirm with your shuttle company. Drivers: If you are driving a rental car, you must purchase a pass upon entering the park or online in advance. Cost: Approximately $10.50 CAD per person, per day or $21.00 CAD per vehicle, per day (for up to 7 people). An annual pass is also available.

Mountain Weather & Packing: Banff's weather is highly unpredictable, even in the summer, and temperatures can vary dramatically throughout the day. Layers are key! Recommended Packing Checklist: Layers! T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, fleece or hoodie, and a medium-weight jacket. Waterproof/Windproof Jacket (essential for rain or cooler mountain breezes). Comfortable Walking Shoes/Boots (for exploring and/or hikes). Wedding Attire & Footwear: Please refer to FAQ for more details. Sun Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat (the mountain sun is strong). Daypack: A small backpack for day trips with water, extra layers, and snacks. Getting Around Banff: The town of Banff is very walkable. If you do not rent a car, you can easily get to major attractions using the local public transportation system, Roam Transit. It offers routes to popular spots like the Banff Gondola and Lake Minnewanka. Wildlife & Safety: Banff National Park is home to amazing wildlife, including bears. When hiking, please: 1. Make Noise: Talk loudly or wear a bear bell to alert animals to your presence. 2. Stay Alert: Keep an eye out for wildlife. 3. Never Feed the Animals: It is illegal and dangerous.
