How we met, Lauren edition!

We have a pretty unconventional love story. Cameron and my sister Megan met in a friend group. I remember Megan calling me out of the blue about this guy and how much he loved the outdoors, how sweet he was and how great of a guy he was. I didn’t believe her and dismissed the whole thing. Well turns out, when you meet someone on your own terms and time - they’re pretty great. He was a rower at the Naval Academy and that instantly attracted me to him because I hadn’t met another rower that wasn’t from my team. He instantly understood a part of me that most people didn’t. That night he went out on a limb and asked me to work for him as an assistant coach for the HS team he was coaching. I needed the money, had a passion for coaching AND I got to hangout with the guy I thought was cute? Uh yeah, absolutely I’ll work with you! In this time i got to see him in a work environment. There I got to see how passionate he was about people and how genuinely he wanted to see others excel. Fun fact: we went to IN-N-OUT when we were “just friends” and he said we shouldn’t date... i went home snd wrote in my dear future husband journal that I loved him. I already knew! Then I went on what ended up being a 10 month mission trip a couple months after we started dating. Being apart from each other was real difficult but it made me love him more and more sure that I wanted to marry him. Then we got engaged. On our one year anniversary - I planned a date for us that was pretty awesome if I do say so myself! ;-) we got dinner to go and headed to Bachman Lake where we both coached together, first held hands, and realized we really liked each other. At the back of my car, we exchanged presents after dinner. He saw my gift which was a map of Bachman Lake with the coordinates saying “when I knew it was you” - he had a silicone ring that he bought for me and took it and got down on one knee!!! It was the most genuine, best thing. I can’t wait to be your wife! I love you Mr. Baxley!!!!

How we met, Cameron edition!

I met Lauren’s sister Megan over the summer because of another friend from church. Megan said, “hey I have a sister and you should really meet!” At this point, Lauren still lives in Oklahoma, and I sort of forgot about it. Come Christmas time, Lauren was back home! We met. At first, it was awkward. We both felt this pressure, since Megan had talked to both of us, that we were supposed to date, so I was a total weirdo for the 1st month we knew each other. Finally, on a Tuesday night at the Porch, we had a real conversation. Then I hired her as my assistant coach. We hung out in groups more and more, developing a real fondness for each other. About a month into our friendship the feeling were undeniable. We sat down at in-n-out and talked about the future. I told her that I was willing to date long distance for a year while she went on the World Race, but I did not want to be a distraction to her and her mission there. So, we decided to just be friends. That lasted for like 2 seconds. I met her folks, and we started dating. We continued to date all through her globetrotting adventures this year. After she got home, I was certain. This is the woman that I want to spend the rest of my life with. On our one-year anniversary, at the very park where we started dating, I proposed. It is the best decision I’ve ever made.
