Madison and Andrew met at a New Year’s Eve party hosted by Andrew’s friend, Nick Morrow, when they were sixteen and seventeen. Andrew demonstrated a lot of courage in his attempt to impress Madison, but it was matched by an equal amount of clumsiness. At one point, he went as far as demonstrating how to properly tie boots. Nonetheless, Madison was charmed by him, and she eventually gave him her number. Their first official date was in the early spring of 2012, just months before Andrew’s high school graduation, and they quickly became inseparable. Though summer quickly came and went, they chose to stay together even as college careers brought them to faraway places. They persevered, eventually sharing a bungalow in San Luis Obispo during Madison’s last year at Cal Poly. The following year, they returned to the East Bay, and Andrew began planning his proposal. With the help of Madison’s friend, Whitney Tamaki, he surprised Madison in the same park where they had their first date before ushering her off for dinner, dessert, and drinks with family and friends.
