We always say this wasn’t the plan… but honestly, it was the perfect plot twist. Our families had known each other for years, yet somehow we never crossed paths. In fact, we didn't even know of each other's existence. It was as if fate was waiting for the perfect moment. That moment came in medical school. We first met at the Butler MSA bonfire our last year of undergrad, exchanged the most unenthusiastic “hi” ever, and went home thinking nothing of it. Hibbah thought he was a little too nerdy and quiet; Faizan felt she talked a bit too much. Plot twist: we were both very wrong. Beginning of medical school, Hibbah was first assigned to the Indy campus, while Faizan was in Muncie… until her last minute, unexpected campus switch. Suddenly, we were the only two Muslim students, always seated next to each other, turning side comments into inside jokes, late night talks, and fun drink “study breaks” that included zero studying. Our sessions were McDonald’s fries, Arby’s shakes, and Faizan blasting Taylor Swift (yes, willingly) to impress Hibbah. Everyone else saw it before we did — we didn’t fall in love in a dramatic moment, it happened quietly, naturally, and felt like the easiest thing in the world. From study buddies to best friends to baat pakki and then nikkah, life has only gotten sweeter. These days, you’ll find us surviving med school, bed-rotting on weekends, drinking chai at midnight, “cooking together” (meaning Hibbah cooks while Faizan supervises and proudly handles the grocery part), and hanging out with our niece Iman who is the best thing to happen to us. We travel whenever we can! So far we have been to Houston, Chicago, and Atlanta. Yet, every trip still leads us back to a Devon Street run. Looking back, we laugh at how close we were to meeting so many times before we actually did, almost like we were connected by an invisible string. The timing was divine, and now we’re here! Our love story will forever be our favorite <3... and now, we are so excited to share and celebrate this part of our journey with you all!!
